This Week's HeartShaper Minute
Dear Children's Ministry Leader,
Thank you for signing up to receive Standard Publishing's HeartShaper Minute, a twice monthly e-publication that focuses on the needs of children's ministry leaders.
In this issue, we focus on using video to help teach biblical truths to the children in your ministry. Two samples are included, one from a major motion picture release, Dr. Doolittle and the second is a sample from Bibletoons, a new large group-small group video curriculum series from Standard Publishing.
In a century full of media awareness, what better way to reach kids where they are than to use video? You meet them where they are. You begin with something that is familiar to them and lead them to a biblical principle.
Forward this e-mail on to children's ministry leaders and volunteers who you think will be interested in receiving The HeartShaper Minute! They can sign up on our web site.
In Christ,

Introduce the clip:
In this movie, Flubber is a special make-believe substance a professor invents. It has special powers. Flubber bounces very high and very fast. In its liquid form it can be sprayed on other things and make them bounce high and fast-- even people. Some evil men want to use it, so they steal it.But the professor and his girlfriend get it back. Let's see how they do it.
Show the video clip and use these guided questions:
Ask: What did you learn about Flubber in the video? Does Flubber really exist?
Flubber is totally make-believe. By using Flubber, Professor Brainard could do special things that he could not do without it.
Ask: Did you know that there are special things you can do with God that you can't do without him? (Guide the discussion with examples like their entry into Heaven, and receiving God's forgiveness for their sins.)
Ask: How is God's power like Flubber? How is God's power different than Flubber? (Help children understand that Flubber is make-believe and God's power is real.)
Ask: Why is God's power important to you? How do you use God's power?
Give each child a small rubber ball to remind him or her of God's power.

Using Bibletoons to teach kids Deuteronomy 6:5
A sample lesson from Love God
Bible Story: From Egypt to the Promised Land (Exodus, Numbers)
Bibletoon: Deuteronomy 6:5- Love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your strength.
Bible Truth: God wants me to love Him with everything I have.
Bible Background: When God called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, Moses finally obeyed and went to Egypt. God helped Moses confront Pharaoh, sent the plagues, saved the Israelites from death, freed them from slavery, opened the Red Sea, provided from them in the wilderness, protected them, gave them rules to live by, guided them, and brought them to the promised land. The books of Exodus and Numbers record the history of the Israelites from Egypt and Numbers record the history of the Israelites from Egypt to the borders of Canaan.
In Deutronomy, Moses says goodbye to the children of Israel, reminding them how much God has loved and protected them and explaining to them more about God's commands. The command in Deutronomy 6:5 emphasizes how loving God should involve everything we have and are.
